UA Faculty, Staff and Students Filming on Campus

UA-affiliated individuals may film or photograph on campus without formal approval only when all conditions below are met

  • No special services are required (e.g., parking, security) 
  • The activity does not disrupt University operations 
  • Content is non-commercial and for internal or UA-affiliated use 
  • Filming occurs in a UA-operated studio 
  • The activity supports a class or research project with minimal campus impact 

Approval Is Required When: 

  • UA landmarks, campus spaces or buildings are used as a filming location or set 
  • An outside production company or photographer is involved 
  • The project involves documentary or film production 
  • Drones or unmanned aircraft systems are used 
  • Any filming could impact operations, safety or scheduling 

Filming conducted outside these parameters without approval may be stopped. 

Required Steps

Step 1: Filming Request Form
Submit at least 10 business days in advance. 

Step 2: Ground Use Permit (when applicable)
Required if large structures are installed for outdoor filming. Must be coordinated at least 10 business days in advance. 

Step 3: Unmanned Aircraft Systems (when applicable)
Required when drones are used for filming and/or photography. Must be coordinated at least 10 business days in advance. Drone use is highly restricted and allowed only under limited circumstances. All UAS activity must comply with University policy and receive advance approval. 

Step 4: Location Agreement (if filming is approved) 
Required for projects involving outside vendors. Proof of insurance is required.
