WHEN: First Monday & third Tuesday of each month, subject to rescheduling due to weather or UA-observed holidays. Please see our upcoming headshot dates on the UA events calendar.

WHERE: Steps in front of Rose Administration Building

WHAT TO WEAR:

  • We recommend wearing solid colors with muted tones. Patterns are ok if they are subdued. Avoid bright white as it tends to be washed out by our studio lights.
  • Men should wear a collared button down or polo-style shirt, and ladies wear a top with sleeves
  • A jacket or sport coat adds a nice touch.

Where do I go to have a headshot made?

A: Headshots are currently being made outdoors on the steps in front of Rose Administration Building. Please register for a time (between 8:30 am and noon) by visiting this form.

How will I receive the photos you take of me?

A: You will be notified within 10 business days of your headshot session that the images have been added to Photoshelter, our online photo database. Most full-time UA employees should be able to access the site by selecting the “Internal Login” option and using their MyBama credentials. Typically, you should be able to locate your files by searching for your last name. You can then download your preferred image(s) for your own use, or to send along to whomever may have requested you have a headshot made. (If you provided that person’s email address along with your own when signing up for a session, they will receive notification of your photos’ availability at that same time you do.)

Can I let the Department of Photography know which photo I prefer for my department/college’s online directory?

A: You will need to forward your chosen image to whomever requested you have the headshot made, often your area’s primary communications staff or web developer.

What is the cost for headshots?

A: There is no charge; headshots are free for UA faculty & staff.

How many photos will you send?

A: For faculty and staff headshots you will receive anywhere from 1-8 images.

When will I receive the images?

A: Images are sent up to 10 business days after the photoshoot.

Where should I park?

There is 30-minute parking in front of Rose Administration and also a faculty/staff parking deck behind Rose that can be accessed from Bryant Drive.

What time should I come to have my headshot made?

A: Please try to arrive at the time you specified when you filled out the online form, give or take up to 5 minutes. Our photographers are returning to the office to complete other work in between scheduled sessions and may not be outside in the event of very early/late arrivals.

Can you photoshop me?

A: Due to the large number of headshots we take we are unable to retouch extensively beyond a softening filter, exposure, sharpening, color correction, cropping, and so forth.

Can I make an appointment to have a headshot made on another day/time besides those listed on the signup form?

A: We are no longer taking individual appointments for headshots.

What should I wear?

A: We recommend wearing solid colors with muted tones. Patterns are ok if they are subdued. Bright white tends to look washed out by our studio lights and/or the sun. Avoid sleeveless tops or t-shirts. For both men and women, a business style jacket or sport coat adds a nice touch.

Can students attend headshot day?

A: At this time, we are not capturing student headshots. The UA Career Center offers free basic headshots for students, but note that due to COVID this service may have changed or been temporarily discontinued. Log in to Handshake (ua.joinhandshake.com) to make an appointment during available times. For more information, contact the Career Center.

I need to have a passport photo made. Can you take my passport photo?

A: Our office does not capture passport photos. However, there is a Passport Acceptance Facility located on campus that will capture your passport photo. This is a service they offer for both employees and students. Please call 205-348-2054 to schedule an appointment.
