The role of the Department of Web Communications is to devise, coordinate and optimize the University’s Internet presence as an element of the institution’s overall communications and marketing strategy.
The Department of Web Communications is responsible for building and managing the institutional web framework; managing the top levels of the University of Alabama website; setting policy, guidelines and standards for official UA websites; and providing direction, support and consultation for web initiatives campus-wide.
Institutional Framework Project
Our team is currently developing an institutional web framework with the goal of providing a common, user-friendly, technological foundation for all campus web initiatives. This includes a new UA WordPress Theme based on the Gutenberg editor, a PHP Template for adding UA branding to web applications, a new central UA events calendar system, and more.

The UA WordPress Theme offers simple setup and customization of a UA-branded website and includes many prebuilt page templates, objects and formats to meet almost any need. The theme is designed to be easy to use for technical or non-technical users.
UA-branded web templates based on the design and functionality of the UA Home Page are available for use by any official unit of The University of Alabama.
